the story

In the aftermath of September 11, six New Yorkers try to piece together their lives in a world that is changing more rapidly than they are prepared for. War, fear, abuse, and hope drive the narrative of these six unique individuals, whose stories continue to intersect.

 
It’s just that everything I try to do, nothing seems to turn out right.

Using only music from The Decemberists' catalogue, this musical follows the hopes and dreams of its characters through the poignant lyrics and powerful music of one of today's most important bands.

the original production

Sons & Daughters was originally staged in June of 2016 at the Eisenhower Chapel on the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. The original cast was reassembled for a follow-up performance in January of 2017 at RedLine Community Art Center in the heart of the Five Points area in Downtown Denver.
